Ten kilowatts of dusty speakers and amplifiers, a warehouse in Los Angeles, and a Tuesday night. The Beat House convened live every week on Stickam and Ustream, and was captured as a podcast for the record.
Two standing officers opened each session and passed the floor to rotating guests, who made their case with the turntables and mixer. What follows is the order of proceedings, reconstructed from the recordings themselves.

Notes to the Record
i.Dates are taken from the photographers'
cameras, not from the filenames. The camera clocks ran on UTC; subtract seven hours for
Pacific and every dated session falls on a Tuesday night, most of them running past
midnight. A solid date is
photographic; a dotted one is projected along the weekly sequence and carries no
photograph of its own.
ii.The twenty-one sessions before
briefing 22 were never photographed on a dated camera, and for years stood as black bars in
this table. They were recovered from the recordings themselves. Every published file still
carries the
mvhd atom written when it was encoded, and every object in the
bucket still carries its original 2009 upload time. Briefings 01 and 02 were encoded on
8 and 14 October 2009 — a fortnight before the batch upload that had been the only date
anyone had for them — which puts the inaugural briefing on Tuesday 6 October 2009.
Weekly Tuesdays from there, with a single week conceded to the holidays after briefing 12,
reproduce the photographed dates of briefings 17 and 22 exactly, and no episode in the run
is ever encoded before the night it records. The chain is shown dotted throughout.iii.Briefing 30 was the election. Eight
candidates stood, each with printed campaign signage —
DISTRICT ONE REP,
paid for and approved by friends of — and 143 photographs were taken on the
night of 4 May 2010. The recording is the only one in the entire run that never reached
the archive.iv.Briefings 38 and 39 were held at
Broadway Bar rather than the warehouse. Neither was ever published. The archive stops at
37 because the room stopped being the room.
v.The camera that shot briefings 25 to 29 was running exactly 31 days slow — every one of those five folders is off by the same constant, which is also why they appear to fall on Saturdays: 31 days shifts a Tuesday three weekdays back. Correcting for it puts all five back on the weekly Tuesday sequence. Earlier folder numbering remains unreliable: the folder labelled 4 holds photographs captioned EP3, and the one labelled 10 holds an unrelated shoot. The folder labelled 20 is very likely another: it is dated 16 February 2010, which the sequence assigns to briefing 19. Its date is left standing here, against the run of the chain, until someone who was in the room says otherwise.

1.The result of Briefing 30. Eight
candidates stood on 4 May 2010. The signage survives; the outcome was never entered anywhere
we can find. Who won?
2.The Briefing 30 recording. 143
photographs were made that night and no audio reached the archive. Did a recording exist, and
who held the rig?
3.Guests at 38 and 39. Both sessions
were held at Broadway Bar, on 29 June and 6 July 2010. Neither was published and neither
lineup is recorded.
4.The folder labelled 20. Its
photographs are dated 16 February 2010, but the weekly sequence puts briefing 20 on the 23rd
and gives the 16th to briefing 19 — Faith D’Marco and Porter Tinsley. Folder numbering
has already been caught wrong twice. Whose night is in that folder?
5.The week of 29 December 2009.
One week has to be conceded between briefings 12 and 13 for the chain to land on the dates
the photographs give, and the holidays are the obvious candidate — briefing 12 sat unencoded
from 22 December to 6 January. Was the room dark that Tuesday, or was there a session nobody
recorded?
6.The masters. No original session
recordings survive on any drive, image or cloud store searched. Only the 36 published podcast
files remain. Where did the masters live?
7.Did it end at 39? The last session on record is 6 July 2010. Were there further nights at Broadway Bar, or did it stop there?
